KCS in Motion 2026-2030 Strategic Plan
Approved by the KCS School Board at its June 25 meeting, the KCS in Motion! 2026-2030 Strategic Plan is the product of a yearlong, community-driven planning process undertaken during the 2025-26 school year. It reaffirms the school's founding commitment to "Education. Reimagined." defined as a personalized, individualized approach to learning designed to ensure every student is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Rather than a top-down administrative exercise, the process was intentionally participatory, drawing on a representative cross-section of KCS stakeholders to shape a shared roadmap for 2026–2030. The team included Mark Mielke, Gretchen Etzler, Lilly Claseman, Carrie Lynch, Nolan Omoth, Julia Mielke, Deby Ziesmer, Stacy Dorry, Sandy Skon, Michelle Zachman-Wolverton, Jen Stowe, Jackie Kasper, Jason Banick, Stephen Moline, as well as Executive Director Brad Sellner and K-12 Director Chris Nordmann.
The plan is built around four components: an updated Mission statement; Core Values & Beliefs; Strategies and Actions guiding implementation throughout the plan's five years. The plan is already underway with specific, year-one action steps. Progress will be shared with the community throughout the year.

A Message from the Executive Director
Dear Kaleidoscope Community,
At Kaleidoscope Charter School we are committed to providing "Education. Reimagined." To us, this means creating an individual and personalized experience for all students and families — one where every learner is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. This commitment is not just a tagline; it is the foundation upon which every decision we make is built.
During the 2025-26 school year, we embarked on a journey to update our strategic plan. This was not simply an administrative exercise — it was a deliberate and meaningful process, based in participatory planning, to ensure that a representative group of our stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, staff, and the school’s broader community) had a voice in the school’s direction, priorities, and resources.
As a charter school, we are entrusted with the freedom to innovate in exchange for accountability to results. Strategic planning is how we honor that trust. It allows us to:
• Exemplify personalized, reimagined education, even as we grow and change.
• Demonstrate to our authorizer (Volunteers of America), families, and school community that we
are intentional stewards of the opportunity entrusted to us.
• Allocate our limited resources (time, funding, and people) toward the priorities that matter most.
• Align our school board, teachers and staff, students, and families around a shared vision so
everyone is pulling in the same direction to prepare the next generation of learners for career and
post-secondary success.
• Be proactive and prepared to face challenges head-on rather than simply reacting to them.
• Make thoughtful decisions about our future, whether that involves program expansion, new grade
levels, or deepening the personalized learning experiences we offer.
This strategic planning process reflects our deep belief that a great school — much like learning — is
never finished. KCS is always growing, always learning, always striving to better serve its students and
families.
