School Board
As the governing body of Kaleidoscope Charter School, the KCS School Board has the following responsibilities:
- Adopting a strategic plan and monitoring progress towards achieving the goals it creates
- Creating school policies
- Hiring and supervising the Executive Director, who is the only employee who reports directly to the KCS School Board
- Ratifying employee agreements
- Establishing and approving the annual budget
- Communicating with stakeholders
2026-2027 KCS SCHOOL BOARD GOALS
GOAL #1: MAINTAIN FISCAL INTEGRITY & ACCOUNTABILITY OF SCHOOL
Strategic Plan - Strategy 3
- Develop an appropriate budget using sound budget standards and board policy that includes criteria for working with bond holders to spend down fund balance. (Evidence: Finance report)
- Establish the full kindergarten through graduation continuum in both facilities and curriculum. (Evidence: Annual Budget, Enrollment data)
- Target the secondary enrollment pipeline while ensuring it does not outpace KCS’s ability to deliver the small, personalized environment - - growth that is always intentional and capacity-conscious K-12. (Evidence: Enrollment data)
- Hire and retain a diverse and highly qualified workforce, offer a competitive compensation package, strengthen their skills through ongoing professional development and collaboration, and evaluate their performance on a regular basis. (Evidence: HR report)
- Explore and implement strategies to control costs in all areas, i.e., special education, food service, transportation, and utilities, including changing methods of program delivery and operations. (Evidence: Audit report, monthly finance committee report, budget revisions as needed)

- Set a clear goal to close the gap between KCS student performance and state benchmarks. (Evidence: MCA data and School Report Card)
- Build career and post-secondary pathways that engage all learners. (Evidence: Course enrollment data, Post-graduate college and career data)
GOAL #3: WHOLE-STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

- Build a unified school culture that makes individualized achievement possible. (Evidence: Student/Family surveys)
- Connect consistent equitable behavior intervention with social-emotional learning and well-being support. (Evidence: Tier 2 Intervention data, SAEBRS data)
- Reflect the belief that great education addresses the whole person. (Evidence: MRA Survey data)
GOAL #4: COMMUNITY AND ENGAGEMENT

- Elevate the mission of KCS among all stakeholders in our community and in our decision making. (Evidence: Event attendance data, Chamber events, marketing materials, board meetings and minutes)
- Strengthen what makes KCS distinctive: a genuine sense of belonging, deep family partnerships, authentic student voice, and meaningful service to the broader community. (Evidence: Student/Family surveys)
- Promote the KCS “choice” through positive/accurate reporting in all forms of media and marketing to foster inclusive, community-wide relationships and support for the School and its goals. (Evidence: Newsletter, Marketing plan and data, family survey data, school website)
- Continue positive connections with parents through parent involvement, volunteering, and participation in KPTO/Boosters. (Evidence: Family engagement events)
GOAL #5: GOVERNANCE

- Establishment and application of the bylaws of KCS. (Evidence: Bylaws, policy committee, board meetings)
- Retainment of current and recruitment and retention of new board members. (Evidence: Bylaws, elections)
- Commitment to delivering on all the requirements of the school’s authorizer including, developing, implementing, and assessing policy, ensuring that there are checks and balances, recognizing and conforming to the legal mandates and assessing successes and failures. (Evidence: Quarterly goal progress checks, VOA scorecard)
- Set goals; and implement with the assistance of school staff, the strategic plan. (Evidence: Quarterly goal progress checks, implementation of plan initiatives)
- Board members will complete their ongoing training and development. (Evidence: Board trainings, board and committee meeting attendance, board development plan and survey)
