Wellness
Kaleidoscope Charter School (KCS) promotes students and staff wellness, through policy and practice, to help prevent and reduce childhood obesity, and assure that the school meals and other food and beverages sold and otherwise made available to students of Kaleidoscope Charter School (KCS) during the school day are consistent with applicable local, state, and federal standards.
The KCS School Board recognizes that nutrition education and physical education are components of the educational process and that good health fosters student attendance and education. The KCS school environment will promote and protect student’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by encouraging healthy eating and physical activity.
KCS encourages the involvement of the students, parents, food service staff, teachers, school health professionals, the School Board, and the general public in the development, implementation, and periodic review and update of this policy.
Children need access to healthy foods and opportunities to be physically active in order to grow, learn and thrive.
All Students in grades K-12 will have opportunities, support, and encouragement to be physically active on a regular basis.

Wellness Goals 2025-26
The following goals have been developed by the KCS Wellness Committee and approved by the KCS School Board (06.26.25) as part of its annual review of the Wellness Policy #533.
- KCS Administration will work promote better health and wellness of staff by
- publishing weekly wellness messages and opportunities for staff to participate in.
- coordinating with the school’s health insurance provider, to create opportunities for staff to learn about wellness benefits provided through the provider
- KCS Teachers will use movement breaks as a scheduled part of the student day
- a list will be created and distributed by members of the wellness committee in consultation with the teachers).
- KCS Student/Staff Climate Action Team will assist in choosing items for breakfast and lunch that promote healthy choices and help create more variety in the menus
- Team will review options on a monthly basis and meet with the food service director.
- Team will get feedback from students as to which items were a success or not by surveying or collecting information during the lunch period.
