Admissions Process

Making the Kaleidoscope Choice

Kaleidoscope Charter School is a public charter school and is open to the public free of cost. Our small class sizes mean that our enrollment is limited. We still have spots available for the 2023-2024 school year.

Families wishing to enroll for the 2024-2025 school year should submit an application for the lottery process, which will be available on our website and in the KCS office on December 1, 2023 at 8am. Once enrolled at Kaleidoscope, students maintain their spot and do not need to reapply for upcoming school years.

Enrollment Lottery

An enrollment lottery will be held on the first business day of February for each grade where the number of applications exceeds the number of open spots. To participate in the lottery, families must submit an application between the first business day of December and the last business day of January at 3:30pm. Once all open spots are filled, the remaining students will be drawn and placed on the waiting list sequentially. Applications received after the last business day in January will be placed at the end of the waiting list in the order they are received.

Wait List

Students who do not receive an open spot will be placed on the wait list in sequential order.

  • Students will remain on the grade level wait list until a spot becomes available.
  • As spots are accepted or declined, students will move up on the waitlist. This will continue through the remainder of the school year.
  • If they are not yet admitted and want to continue to seek admission, students on the waitlist will need to reapply for the following year's lottery.

Sibling and Staff Preference

As allowed by Minnesota law, siblings of students or foster children of that pupil's parents who are already attending Kaleidoscope will receive sibling preference in the enrollment process. This means they will be placed in front of applicants who do not have a sibling attending Kaleidoscope Charter School during the enrollment lottery and on the waitlist.  Kaleidoscope Charter School shall give enrollment preference to a sibling of an enrolled pupil and to a foster child of that pupil's parents. Additionally, Kaleidoscope gives preference for enrolling children of the school's staff before accepting other pupils.
