• What is Special Education?

According to the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), special education is defined as “specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability.”  There are 14 categories of disabilities which make students eligible to receive special education services under IDEA. Students who qualify for special education will have individual goals for them and a program designed to help provide them with accommodations and modifications so that they can make progress toward these goals.
