Hello and Welcome to First Grade!

I'm Amber Barvels, and I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher! This is my fourth year teaching 1st grade at Kaleidoscope Elementary School. I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Prior to Kaleidoscope I had experiences teaching elementary media and technology, as well as Montessori education.

Some of you know me as Ms. Shoutz! I got married last January on the beaches of Mexico. Dustin and I bought our first house this past summer in Maple Grove, and have loved being homeowners. When I am not at school, you can find me working in the yard or doing house projects. I love a good book, refinishing furniture, and trying out new recipes. Some things I could not live without include caffeine, Target, chocolate, Pinterest, teacher t-shirts, and Amazon Prime! Teaching is a passion of mine, and I absolutely love spending my time in my classroom.

This is the year you will see tremendous growth, both academically and socially, with your child. Being a kid at heart, I love engaging students with hands on lessons, and encourage them to always be curious about the world around them. I am looking forward to having a great year!

Please don't hesitate to reach out and say hello! You can always reach me by email, and see what we are up to on Twitter @MrsBarvels.

Welcome to First Grade!

My name is Renee Suess. I live in Big Lake, Mn with my husband and three amazing kids.  I have been teaching at Kaleidoscope Charter School for 10 years.  It has been a passion and privelege to teach first grade my whole teaching career thus far.  I love this age because it is such a fun age to teach.  This is the year most children become confident in themselves as a learner in our ever changing world.  Reading and Math are two subjects that are near and dear to my heart. You will also find out that I am very structure oriented and love to laugh and have fun everyday with your child.  I believe we are all members of a learning family in our classroom.

I look forward to creating a wonderful educational experience for the students in my classroom this year!  If you ever have a question or concern, please feel free to call or email me.  I believe communication is key to the success of our parent and teacher relationship.

Mr. Ben Young (Music)

I have been a music teacher for over 15 years. Music is a very important part about being a balanced student.  It teaches creativity and brings challenges while allowing for great personal expression. Inspiring kids to be musical and appreciate music at an early age is my goal in the classroom.  I also want my students to benefit from learning the language of music. I also enjoy directing orchestra pits for musicals in various community theater productions around the northwest metro area. If my students can speak the language of music in some way, appreciate the importance of hard work, and have a better understanding of how music fits in their life and our world today, I feel I have succeeded in the classroom.
